Apple Watch: Finally Revealed

How much do you depend on your smart phone or how much do you use it? I use my iPhone everyday! It is one of those devices that you can easily become accustomed to using and even depending on. Then we wonder, how can I not have one…or how did I function without it before (probably a little less efficiently).

So, now I ask you….do you wear a watch everyday? Many of us have stopped wearing a watch because we use our phones to check the time. Right? Don’t you do this? My husband and a few friends still wear watches everyday, but most people I know don’t. In a conversation with a friend, we came to the conclusion that we likely would not wear a watch again, unless it was more like a piece of jewelry (a fashionable watch). But, then the smart watch was introduced….the Apple Watch. Yes, the Apple Watch as the company is calling it, not the iWatch or SmartWatch.

This week, Apple finally introduced the highly anticipated Apple Watch. It is nice! It has a range of features and comes in three distinctive collections (there are six different straps, which are easily interchangeable, from leather to mesh, to link bracelet and more):

1-Watch: stainless steel or space black, with a range of stylish bands

2-Watch Sport: anodized aluminum case in silver or space gray, with colorful bands

3-Watch Edition: 18K gold cases (developed to be twice as hard as standard gold)

The watch has a digital crown dial on the side (a knob that serves as a mouse), that let’s you zoom, scroll, and select. In addition to it’s technical features, it is a precise timepiece that automatically adjusts to the local time when you travel (a feature I appreciate on my iPhone). The watch has a custom designed chip that is encapsulated to protect the electronics and is an entire computer system in a single chip – amazing!

The Apple Watch works with (connects to) iOS devices (you need to have an iPhone or iPad close by).  Some of the features include those you have on your iPhone, such as e-mail, calls, schedule, apps, alerts, maps, Facebook, looking at pictures, plus health and fitness tracking. Plus, Siri will also work on the Watch. Can you imagine how cool to talk into your watch? Reminds me of the Jetsons (finally)! With the Apple Watch, you will have all of this on the convenience of your wrist and can keep your iPhone in your purse, desk, or pocket. This is the first wearable product designed by Apple.

Of course, being Apple, they worked with the top leaders in the industry, both technology and watch industries. The watch has a flexible Retin-A display. The rectangular design is laminated and polished to a single crystal sapphire to make it scratch resistant (crystal sapphire is the second hardest transparent material after diamond, an interesting little factoid, in case you were wondering). The display senses touch. Apple designed a range of watch faces and the user can personalize the appearance.

If you are wondering how the Watch is charged. It is charged via the back crystal, it has an inductive magnetic charger, completely sealed so the watch does not have any exposed contacts. The charger looks like a Clarasonic brush charger (if you have one of these), it is like a magnet that attaches to the back of the watch to charge it. The Watch was designed to be worn all day and charged at night. In regards to security, the wristwatch will lock with an anti-theft passcode whenever it is taken off.

The Apple Watch comes in two sizes: 38mm and 42mm. It will cost about $349.

If you were planning on giving it as a Christmas gift or getting one for yourself this year….you’ll have to think of another gift and wait to get it because it won’t be available until early 2015. I was already thinking this may make a good Christmas gift for my hubby….but guess not. Maybe for our anniversary, hmmm.

I was very curious about the Apple Watch and had been reading about it for more than a year now….so when it was finally revealed this week, I had to look at the pictures, the official launch video, read some articles on it, and get the details on the Apple website. It seems like another amazing Apple device! Can’t wait to actually see one! You can find more info at:

– Brief video of what the Apple Watch looks like (90 sec) and article from the Huffington Post regarding the reveal

– Detailed video showing what the Watch looks like and describing its multiple features (10 minutes), on the Apple website,  it’s a well produced, clean, & interesting video (wouldn’t expect any less from Apple)

– All the official information regarding the Watch on the Apple website, pictures, features, awesomeness (can you tell I am an Apple fan, I say, as I write this post on my MacBook Air, love this laptop! :))!

Will you be buying an Apple Watch? For yourself or as a gift? Were you aware a smart watch was being designed by Apple and other technology companies? Do you care?

Hugs,

Paola
