Many of us recall the real estate crisis & credit bubble of the mid 2000’s. I had just started my job at the television station and the economy was bad. Many friends which worked in the real estate industry were losing their jobs or closing their businesses. Lots of families were losing their homes and banks were having all kinds of issues. The movie The Big Short is based on the book of the same title (written by Michael Lewis), which is about this time in the economy. It is about several individuals which saw the global collapse of the economy coming, even before the government agencies and banks did. They were key players in the creation of the credit default swap market. They made bold investments, which lead to huge earnings after the bubble burst.

My hubby usually doesn’t accompany me to movie screenings, he had read The Big Short book, so he was interested in watching this film. He joined me for the movie and we both enjoyed it. The Big Short is directed by Adam McCay (also directed Anchorman & Step Brothers) and well produced. It has some comedic scenes and lots of sarcastic scenes. Overall, I found this comedy-drama movie interesting and entertaining. I also like the fact that it is a biographical film, based on a true story. They explain some complex finance transactions in simple terms. It’s a good movie to watch in theaters this holiday season! It has a star studded group of actors, which are all great in their roles: Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Steve Carell, and Ryan Gosling. It is rated R and opens in theaters today, December 23.
