Halloween has become one of my favorite holidays because I enjoy it with my nieces and nephews! Spending Halloween with children increases the joy of this holiday for me! Seeing them get excited about their costumes, gathering for dinner before we go trick-or-treating, their excitement when they see the decorated houses in the neighborhood, and passing out candy at the house! So many laughs and creating wonderful memories! For me, Halloween marks the start of the fall and winter holidays. These holidays full of parties, gatherings, outings, shopping, and food….food….and more delicious food and candy!
The past two years, I wrote about the strategies I use to not eat too much Halloween candy before October 31. It has been even tougher since I’ve been married because a few weeks ahead of time my hubby would decide to buy the candy we’d give out. And, he’d buy chocolate…bags and bags of some of my favorite milk chocolate delights! This year, at the end of September I asked him to please not buy the Halloween candy, informing him I would buy it. Two weeks ago, I bought the candy we will give out…and followed my strategy (read it on link below). I didn’t buy six large bags of chocolates, I bought two large bags of hard candy (Blow Pops & Tootsie Rolls), which I know I will not be tempted to eat. The past few years, my hubby would buy way too many bags of chocolates and we would have lots of it left over. It would be in the pantry calling my name, saying, “Paola, eat me, eat me!” And, I would! Multiple pieces at a time! This year, finally, after four years of being married I was able to use my “Halloween Candy Strategy” and it worked! Below I share more about my strategies and what worked the past two years.
This year, I am pregnant, so I am trying to eat healthier than usual. Surprisingly, I haven’t been craving chocolates. I am being more aware of what I eat, not only for my health, but also for our growing baby! This is why this year, it was even more important to me to not have all those bags of chocolate in the pantry tempting me for weeks before Halloween even arrived! I have eaten a few chocolates here and there since I’ve been pregnant, and am pretty certain I will eat some on Halloween night, but right now it’s about moderation for me. The candy I bought this year. No more chocolates this year!
Two years ago, I came home after a Zumba class at the gym to find all of this Halloween chocolate on the kitchen counter….weeks before October 31!! I couldn’t resist having a few pieces! I shared the three strategies I used “when I was single” to not eat to much candy before Halloween here. This year, I was able to use the strategies again! Yay!
