Museums are popular places to visit during the summer. But, have you considered visiting an art gallery? We used to go to San Francisco more often and one of my favorite places to visit was
a block full of art galleries, located close to Fisherman’s Wharf. We would go in and browse, learn about the artists, and we purchased a piece at one of these galleries. I also like to window shop in Coronado or La Jolla, which includes walking into a few art galleries. I am not an art connoisseur, but do appreciate art. Exhibition openings at art galleries can be particularly fun. They are receptions where a new exhibition is being highlighted, you usually get to meet the artist, which I always find interesting. It can make for a nice date night outing or a girls night out with a friend. Depending on the gallery and exhibition type, it could also be a fun activity to do with teenagers or children. It is also a good way to change-up the routine, get out of the house, and meet new people. Plus, who knows, a special piece may catch you eye and you will add a new piece of art to your home or office. You may be surprised to find some pieces at art galleries which cost the same or only a bit more than a replication or framed prints sold at department stores.
An acquaintance of mine, Alexander Salazar, is an International Art Dealer and owns his own art gallery, Alexander Salazar Fine Art, in San Diego. He invited me to the Opening of the Tony Roko Benefit Art Exhibit at his gallery. I invited a friend and we had a fun night out! We enjoyed seeing the art, meeting the artist, catching up with Alexander, having a glass of wine, and meeting new people. Below are some pictures from the event. If there is particular gallery or type of art you are interested in, you can sign up to receive notifications for new exhibit openings, or get added to galleries e-newsletter list, by visiting the gallery’s website. You could also visit the gallery and sign up on their e-mail list. Or, you can search for art galleries in your town and simply visit them. There are also multiple Meet-Up groups related to art which you could join. Art galleries have exhibitions year round, not only during the summer. Visiting an art gallery can be a fun outing any time of the year!
When was the last time you visited an art gallery? Do you have a favorite art gallery?
