Valentine’s Day Gift: Easy DIY Personalized Chocolate Jar Under $10

IMG_7711

Recently, I made this chocolate jar as a game prize for one of my baby showers. It got me thinking of Valentine’s Day and an idea for a do it yourself (DIY) personalized gift. You can choose a jar theme based on the person you wish to give the gift to. If it is a friend or significant other which likes cats or boats, or any other theme, you can choose a jar based on that theme. You can also use a classic mason jar available at most craft stores or Target/Walmart. I was pleasantly surprised to find this cute bunny top jar at the 99¢ Only Stores (for $2.99). They had other jar tops available, such as flowers, moons, cactus, and chickens, as well as the classic mason jars. You may use a red bow for Valentine’s Day or any color you prefer. You can fill it with the recipients favorite candy, chocolate, or even coffee (skip ribbon inside if you fill it with coffee). Choosing a themed jar which relates to the recipient and their favorite candy will make it a personalized gift! I made this gift with less than $10. Listed below are the items I used and the five easy steps I followed to make this gift.

The items needed are:

  • Jar ($2.99 at 99¢ Only Stores)
  • Chocolate/candy ($3.50 – $5.00, depending on how much you want to use)
  • Ribbon for bow (99¢ at 99¢ Only Stores)
  • Curling ribbon to place inside jar ($1.00 at Target)

This gift can also be given on other occasions, such as birthdays, anniversaries, house-warming, graduations, and many more. It will make a good gift for a student going away to college, they can always use a treat to remind them of home. In addition to it being a nice gift because the recipient can enjoy the candy, they can also use the jar at home or in the office afterwards. Hope you like the idea and make it for someone special in your life! This makes a wonderful personalized Valentine’s Day gift for a friend, daughter/son, sister, niece/nephew, co-worker, grandparents…or a significant other! As a DIY gift, the price is low and the thought to detail in personalizing it will be much appreciated!

Who do you give gifts to on Valentine’s Day? Do you make any DIY gifts? I’d love to hear about them!

Hugs,

Paola

1. Items you will need: jar, candy/chocolate, ribbon for bow, curling ribbon. I chose to hand wash & dry the glass portion of the jar, & wipe down the top before filling it, but it is not necessary.

The jar was 12 ounces, so I used the entire 8.5 oz bag of Valentine’s themed Kisses (red, pink, & silver wrappers) & about a quarter of the 12 oz bag of Classic Kisses (silver wrapper). If you only want to use one bag of Kisses (or candy), you may add more ribbon inside the jar or use the Classic Bag of Kisses which contains more ounces (priced the same as the 8.5 oz bag of Valentine’s themed Kisses).

2. Place the curling ribbon inside the jar.

3. Drop the chocolates into the jar, over and around the ribbon.

4. Pull the ribbon up to allow even distribution of the chocolates inside the jar.

This is how full the 12 oz jar looked after adding the curling ribbon & 8.5 oz of chocolates. I chose to add more chocolates, but another option is to add more curling ribbon.

I filled it all the way to the top.

5. Add ribbon (in color of your choice) & make bow.

This is how the finished jar looked! Pretty!

Another option, is to separate the chocolates by color. Then place them in the jar by color.

Here, I placed the red at the bottom, pink in the middle, and silver at top.
